about

The Space Cows comic is a project that I have been working on for a long time now. There have been several iterations where I have changed the characters, the story, or the style of the comic. The version that you see now is the most complete version in the sense that the characters finally have strong personalities. The story still needs some working on but I figure that it will flow along on its own as I continue to write the comic. I hope to throw in a bunch of parallels and allegories and metaphors and whatever. My style has traveled light years from the original drawings. The figures have become more three-dimensional and certainly more expressive.

The characters themselves are inspired by people that I have known. A lot of the trouble that they get into is inspired by either things that those people have done or things that they could have done that would seem hilarious if you only knew who I was talking about, which you very well might.

So where did the Space Cows originate? Without giving away too much of the story: an alien takes up a herd of cattle into his starship, chops off the cow heads, and then engineers a humanoid cow species that he releases on a remote planet. From there the story takes off in many directions following the adventures and misadventures of the different characters. Eventually they will run into the pork, an evil species bent on their demise. When it comes time please root for the cows. Until then you will just have to settle for the stories of their less exciting antics.

About the Website

The first Space Cows website was born in 2002, hosted on AOL, and looks pretty old now. This redesign (which you are viewing) launched on the 1st of January, 2006, with an aim toward regular updates, professional hosting, and general perfection.

Luke McKenzie is responsible for its upkeep. After Sam draws a strip down in College Station (whooop!), he scans and e-mails it to Luke up in Dallas (whooosh!) and Luke colors it and posts it for your perusal.

So, if you've a comment on the website (especially if it's "The site is broken!") please e-mail: lukeatthespacecows.com.
